Buffalo New York
Landscape Architect: Trowbridge and Wolf Landscape Architects
Project Designer: Bret LeBleu
A node along Buffalo’s new 5 mile pedestrian and bicycle path, Gallagher Pier revitalized the existing pier as a leisure space. A custom-designed picnic pavilion and game tables are constructed of steel, recalling the area’s industrial past. Custom bike racks encourage cycling.
Plantings are native and designed to stand up to Buffalo’s harsh waterfront climate. The monolithic and largely abandoned grain elevators that line the shore like sculptural remnants, remind the visitor of Buffalo’s heyday as a center of trade and shipping, between the Midwest and New York City, via the Erie Canal.
